Meeting the EYFS Requirements

All providers following the EYFS are required to have staff qualified to the minimum requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. This document sets out the ratio of staff to children and the minimum qualification requirements required for staff working directly with children for all types of settings and schools.

Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage

To count in the ratio for qualified staff and work directly with children, practitioners must hold a qualification that appears in the list of ‘full and relevant qualifications’ published by the Government. It is easy for employers and practitioners to check if qualifications are on the list.

EYFS staff: child ratios - DfE approved qualifications

A qualification that has ‘Early Years Educator’ in its title or offers an ‘Early Years Educator’ pathway is considered full and relevant.
