Communication Week 23rd-27th March 2020

Early Years Communication Week

As you will all be aware there has been a further update last night from central government, about how the public should respond to the Covid-19 emergency. In light of the new measures, we are postponing Communication Week and the celebration event on 27th March 2020 until further notice in the interest of health and safety . We do appreciate all the hard work from everyone with regards to planning and organising events both in the run up to Communication Week and during the actual week.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Make Every Conversation Count

Communication Week aims to raise the awareness of the importance of supporting early interactions from the moment children are born.

Did you know?

Recent studies show that a fifth of parents-to-be surveyed believed communication with babies was only beneficial from the age of three months, whilst one in twenty believed communicating with their child was only necessary once they had reached six months or older. We know that speech, communication and language are key skills to children’s learning and development. Unfortunately, we also know that many children struggle to develop the skills they are capable of and the negative consequences can have life-long impact. Communication Week aims to raise the awareness of the importance of supporting early interactions from the moment children are born.

Communication Week

During this week across the whole of the county, families, early years practitioners, library services and family hubs will be celebrating the value of communication for our youngest children; sharing ideas and resources on how we can create an environment for conversation. In the run up to communication week, the Buckinghamshire County Council’s Early Years Service will be promoting top tips for talking and will be out and about at various locations throughout the county, with practical advice to families and Early Years Practitioners on how to fit quality interactions into everyday life. We are working to ensure all children in Buckinghamshire have the best start to life – so let’s get talking.

Family Centres

Across Aylesbury and the North we are running our normal sessions with a focus on communication. We are having arts and crafts around a popular book and story time to replace singing during our play and explore sessions. We are also including some basic communication skills and some Makaton signing during our baby sessions that week.

Also each family attending a session that week will be given a free book.
